Art, environment, social redemption
The TAPPOST project was born in 2013 as creativity in respect of the environment. The idea is simple: recover steel crown caps – those of beer and soft-drink bottles – and interpret them as elements of a mosaic to create works with a strong visual impact.
Upcycling and pop art
The caps, first collected in various venues of Naples’ nightlife and today also from European businesses, go from hermetic closures to tiles of an endless mosaic. The result: paintings, sculptures and furnishing objects – tables and seats – unique pieces made to order.
Why caps
- Italy uses about 4 billion crown caps every year, a weight of steel equal to that of the Eiffel Tower.
- Recycling 100 caps is enough to make, for example, a wrench.
- Giving the material a second life reduces waste and emissions.
The social component
To create the works, Luigi Masecchia works with young people from communities and disadvantaged backgrounds. Through the workshop set up by the artist, they spend their time creatively and receive a fee that recognises the dignity of the work done.
